The Commission meets with Political Parties and Government Representatives for the purpose of preparing an Election Code of Conduct. The Code outlines the dos and don’ts in the campaign process by the Government, Political Parties participating in election and the National Electoral Commission.
In the 2000 elections eight out of thirteen political parties participating in the election agreed to sign the Code of Conduct. (See Election Hand Book pg 19)
Code of Conduct for Local and International Observers
All local and international observers must adhere to the following code of conduct:
» Strict impartiality;
» Not to express any opinion to the press on electoral process;
» Not to issue a public statement about the electoral process before the election results have been officially announced;
» Not to play an executive role or to act as a commission of inquiry; and
» To return any identification material issued to him/her by the National Electoral Commission and any other material which will specifically be required to be returned.
